Veterans Funding Faces Cuts

Two state programs that helps homeless veterans face cuts after lawmakers couldn’t stop state funding reductions.

The Veterans Housing and Recovery Program is closing two of its locations, and the Veterans Outreach and Recovery Program will loose seven positions. Both serve veterans who struggle with mental health and substance use issues.  The closures were announced in July, and Democrats and Republicans argued over funding for months.  A Republican bill to fund the program received a hearing in September, but it was too late to stop the closures.
