Planned Parenthood Pausing Abortion Appointments

Planned Parenthood Pausing Abortion Appointments

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is putting abortion appointments on pause October 1st because of Medicaid funding cuts in President Trump’s tax and spending bill. OB-GYN Dr. Kristen Lyerly, who provides care in rural Wisconsin communities, says Planned Parenthood was forced to make a choice.

The new law bans abortion providers from receiving Medicaid payments. Taxpayer money already can’t be used to provide abortions, but Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin was receiving reimbursement for other services it provides, such as cancer screenings, STI testing and postpartum care. The organization says in a statement that it’s trying to see as many patients as possible before the deadline.

Showing you different sides so you can decide, Wisconsin Family Action President Daniel Degner says his organization sees the move as a win for the state.
