Gov. Evers Will Not Seek Third Time, Local Party Leaders React

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers says he won’t seek re-election next year.

In a video posted on X, Evers said he’s not trying for a third term so can spend more time with family.  However, the Democrat did predict he would win if he did run.  Evers said for five decades, his family sacrifiied to give him the gift of service and he now owes it to them to focus on all the things they love doing together.  The move will likely begin the start of a wide open race in the battleground state.

Locally, Eau Claire party leaders are reacting to news that Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers will not seek another term in office.

In a statement issued yesterday, the two-term Democrat said he would have won a third time if he ran but that he instead is looking forward to spending more time with his family.  Eau Claire Democratic Party Chairman Phillip Swanhorst says he is disappointed by Evers’ decision but understands the desire to retire.

Across the aisle, Eau Claire County Republican Chairman Fred Kappus released a statement saying that Evers has been ineffective in office and is not up for the job.
