August is approaching. Don’t worry. Summer is not over yet, and our local museum has some great events to prove it.

From Irish to Hmong: Catholic Burials in the Omaha Street Cemeteries, August 7 OR August 14, 6-7:30pm

Take a guided tour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus – St. Patrick parish cemeteries on Omaha Street and discover the tapestry of cultures and individuals in Eau Claire. The 90-minute walk includes a visit inside St. Joseph’s Chapel and discussion of symbolism found on cemetery monuments. This tour has been developed by veteran guides Robert Gough and Greg Kocken.

A Conversation with S.Z. Putnam: Reflections of a Hmong Daughter, Saturday, August 16, 3-4pm

Join S.Z. Putnam as she shares her family’s Hmong immigration and settlement experience. Putnam shares the joys and struggles she experienced embracing her ethnicity. Several of these poems are being written just for this performance and are inspired by the Anderson to Yang exhibit. This program is included with museum admission.

Behind the Scenes Tours, Monday, August 18, 5-6:30pm

Embark on a one-of-a-kind after-hours tour and uncover the Chippewa Valley Museum’s best-kept secrets. Explore rare collections—including a bona fide iron lung—slip behind hidden doors, and earn bragging rights for going where few ever have.  Capacity: 20

Park It! Sip, Savor, Sustain. Friday, August 22, Cocktails 5:30-6:30; Dinner 6:30-7:30

Gather at the Chippewa Valley Museum for an intimate outdoor fundraiser—a truly extraordinary evening of cultural celebration surrounded by the beauty of nature in Carson Park. Enjoy premium wine and craft beers during our cocktail hour, followed by a delicious meal from Menomonie Coop, accompanied by Paul Hecht’s piano music.

Your presence and contribution directly support the preservation of our community’s rich cultural heritage, ensuring that future generations can explore and appreciate stories about the Chippewa Valley.
