The Eau Claire Fire Department (ECFD) responded to the Chippewa River for a water rescue for one person in distress under the Water St bridge.
ECFD medic 5 was first to arrive and found a bystander pulling a victim from the river to shore line under the bridge. Medic 5 began medical treatment on the victim while 2 additional engine companies navigated steep terrain to assist with patient care.
Due to the hazardous terrain, the patient was transported by ECFD Boat 5 from the Water St bridge to Hobbs boat landing where medic 9 immediately transported to Mayo hospital where they later died as the incident remains under investigation.
