Regis Catholic Schools is pleased to introduce Michael McHorney ‘02 as the new Regis Athletic Director (Grades 5-12).

“It’s an honor and privilege to serve as the next Athletic Director for Regis Catholic Schools,” McHorney said. “As a proud Regis alumnus, I’ve experienced firsthand the profound impact that faith, academics, and athletics can have on a person’s life. I’m grateful to the administration and leadership for their confidence in me to lead athletics at Regis.”
Mr. McHorney is particularly passionate about coaching youth sports, with more than a decade of experience. He served as Head Junior Varsity and Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Regis High School for three seasons, culminating in a runner-up finish at the WIAA State Tournament. He also coached middle school basketball at Regis for four seasons and later coached at Memorial High School as Head Freshman Basketball Coach for three seasons and Assistant Varsity Coach for two.

Most recently, Mr. McHorney was a museum planning and leadership development consultant with a specialty in children’s museums. His recent consulting work includes projects in Topeka, KS; Bellevue, WA; St. Joseph, MO; Bend, OR; and Washington, DC. Before launching his consulting practice, Michael served for a decade as Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire in Wisconsin, where he oversaw a period of significant growth in visitor attendance and successfully led the funding and construction of a brand-new facility in 2023. Earlier in his career, Michael held leadership and executive positions with Boys & Girls Clubs in two states.
“Coaching and leading youth sports has always been my first passion, he said. “While I’m grateful that my career led me into nonprofit leadership, I’ve felt called in recent years to return to where my heart has always been—dedicating myself fully to the development of student athletes.”
Mr. McHorney earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and has remained a dedicated volunteer in youth-serving organizations throughout his professional journey. He is an alumnus of Regis High School (2002), where he played basketball and baseball, and was part of the baseball team that captured the school’s first WIAA state title by defeating two-time defending champion DeSoto.
“I’m thrilled to work alongside the outstanding group of coaches at Regis—many of whom I know well and deeply respect for the way they lead their programs,” McHorney added.
Michael lives in Eau Claire with his wife, Emilee, and their two young sons, Henry (8) and Archie (4).
Mr. McHorney officially begins his duties on July 1. Thank you to Kyle Seyer ‘10 for serving as our previous Regis High School Athletic Director / K-12 Activities Liaison for Regis Catholic Schools.
