The Eau Claire Fire Department (ECFD) responded to the Chippewa River for a water rescue involving people on floating tubes.
With the use of Fire Department boats, 2 people were rescued and brought to shore near the Lake St bridge. They were evaluated by ECFD paramedics and no medical transport was required.

At the same time a group of 4 people on floating tubes were reported in distress near the UWEC foot bridge. A second boat rescued the group and brought them to shore at Hobbs landing. No medical transport was required.
Water levels are currently high, making river conditions unpredictable with numerous hazards existing for all area rivers and streams.
Boats 5 and 10 were utilized in today’s rescues, operated by Truck 5 and Engine 10’s firefighters. Engine 2 and Medic 5 assisted with the removal and evaluation of those rescued.
The ECPD and Communication Center assisted during the incident.
No injuries were reported at the time of this report.
