The Wisconsin Supreme Court is ruling against Governor Evers when is comes to his partial veto related to a 2023 literacy funding bill.
The court ruled that the veto was unconstitutional in a decision issued yesterday. Evers previously attempted to send the 50-million dollars set aside in the bill directly to the state Department of Instruction instead of allowing the State Assembly’s Joint Finance Committee to distribute the money, as the legislation laid out. The dollars will go back to the Wisconsin general fund if not distributed by Monday. Republican co-chairs of the Joint Finance Committee have said they do plan to distribute the funds.
