WI Sergeant Makes History

A 39-year-old Black female sergeant is breaking down barriers with the Dane County’s Sheriff’s Department.

Newly appointed Sergeant Shuntia Lucas is becoming the first African-American woman to serve as a booking deputy and patrol officer for the county.  Roughly five-percent of sworn-if staff members at DCSO are Black.  Lucas joined the department in 2018 and says she is considering pursuing a PhD.
