Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #263 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Mon., May 26, 2025, as the state and nation recognize Memorial Day to honor and remember the nation’s fallen heroes, as well as the family members and loved ones they left behind.

“As we honor Memorial Day, we solemnly pay tribute to service members throughout our nation’s history who have given their lives in service of the freedoms, principles, and values we hold dear,” said Gov. Evers. “These service members selflessly sacrificed their lives for this country, and we share a duty and a responsibility to protect and defend all those who have protected and defended us. On Memorial Day, in Wisconsin and across America, we are called upon to remember, reflect on, and honor our nation’s fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price and the loved ones, friends, and colleagues who miss them and cherish their memory every day.”

Across the Union, millions of holiday travelers are enjoying cheaper gas this Memorial Day. GasBuddy says the national average for a gallon of gas will be about three-dollars-and-eight-cents, which would be the cheapest Memorial Day gas since 2021. The gas price website says adjusted for inflation, it could be the lowest Memorial Day gas price since 2003. AAA says over 39-million people will travel by car over the holiday weekend, up three percent from last year.

When it comes to the big screen, it was the biggest Memorial Day weekend at the box office ever. Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” brought in more than 145 million dollars in its opening release week. Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” cruised into the box office with a release week profit north of 63 million. “Final Destination Bloodlines” grossed out audiences while grossing 89 million dollars in its second week on the big screen.
