On Sunday May 11, Marshfield Fire and Rescue was dispatched to Forte for multiple explosions and 30-foot flames coming from the building.
Marshfield Fire initially responded with 6 personnel on Engine 3, Engine 1 and Truck 1. The department was at minimum staffing for the day and one ambulance with two personnel were already on an EMS call and responded to scene about 15 minutes after initial dispatch. En route dispatch confirmed from on scene callers and Police that there was an explosion and smoke and fire, so a MABAS Box alarm was called to request additional resources and manpower. On scene there was heavy smoke showing from multiple locations with minimal access.
The water deluge system was operating in multiple locations, helping to control fire spread. Crews began to prioritize fire locations and began multiple offensive attacks. Two aerial trucks and two Engines were ultimately used to extinguishment purposes, as well as multiple support apparatus. Crews were on scene for approximately 4 hours and were assisted by Marshfield Utilities, WE Energies, Wood County Central RIT, Wood County Rehab, Hewitt Fire, Lincoln Fire, Richfield Fire, and Arpin Fire. Estimated water usage is 50,000 gallons. A Fire Investigation is currently ongoing. Marshfield Fire utilized 8 on duty personnel, with 11 off duty personnel responding for assistance, with neighboring departments providing aid for a total of 26 Firefighters on scene.
One Firefighter suffered heat related injuries and was treated and released on scene.
Damage is estimated and $75,000, but may rise upon further assessment. Multiple explosion doors and ductwork were blasted open. Other cuts and damage created by fire operations to gain access to fire.
