First Republican Candidate Announces Run for WI Governor

Republican Josh Schoemann has created a committee to run for Governor in 2026.

Not only is he the first republican, but he is also the first person to put his name in the hat for Governor. Schoemann is the executive of Washington County, which has a high number of republicans. Schoemann will most likely not be the only republican to enter the race as we are still 19 months away. Current Governor Tony Evers has not announced if he plans to run for a third term and wants to wait until his budget is passed and signed into law.
