A fire causes an estimated $200,000 in damages.
On Monday, April 28th at 06.02am, The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1707 8th Street. Battalion 1 was the first to arrive on scene and reported heavy smoke fire coming from a single story, wood frame, residential structure with a possible occupant still inside the structure. Arriving fire units went into rescue mode and found an occupant inside the structure.
The occupant was removed from the structure under heavy smoke and fire conditions but was found to deceased. After the occupant was removed from the structure, Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire. Another occupant who was present at the time of the fire was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
