As we get started today, let’s start with a “thank you” for being here. we know life gets busy and your to-do list is likely growing all the time. That’s why we like to take time to intentionally slow things down on our Saturday mornings with a “scroll down memory lane.”

It’s a simple look back at events that happened on these days in history before we head out to make new history today. So, grab your favorite sippin’ drink and let’s scroll!

Tomorrow is April 20th, the 110th day of the year.

On this day:

In 1832, an act of Congress established Hot Springs National Park as the first national park in the United States.

In 1853, Harriet Tubman started her Underground Railroad, helping slaves to freedom.

In 1912, “Dracula” author Bram Stoker died at the age of 64.

In 1961, the Federal Communications Commission approved F-M Stereo broadcasting. It now accounts for more than 80-percent of all radio listening around the country.

In 1992, British comedian Benny Hill died at the age of 67.

In 1999, ventriloquist Senor Wences died at the age of 103.

In 1999, two teenage gunmen opened fire on students and teachers at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado killing 13 people before turning their guns on themselves.

In 2010, educator and social activist Dorothy Height died at the age of 98. Height was the president of the National Council of Negro Women for 40 years.

In 2013, events recognizing Colorado’s observance of four-20 Day were cancelled following a shooting at a marijuana rally.

In 2016, ESPN fired former MLB All-Star Curt Schilling after sharing an offensive post on Facebook over the North Carolina “bathroom law.”

In 2020, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina announced they were lifting some coronavirus restrictions.

In 2021, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted in the murder of George Floyd, a case that prompted racial justice protests across the country.

In 2023, SpaceX’s most powerful rocket, Starship, launched a test flight from Boca Chica, Texas but exploded 4 minutes into flight. The rocket was made with 33 booster engines and the explosion was blamed on Musk’s rush to launch on 4/20.
