Wrong way Intoxicated Driver Arrested in Lake Hallie

On April 9, 2025, at approximately 10:01pm, a Lake Hallie Police Officer was conducting  stationary traffic enforcement on BUS 53 south of 115th St. in the Village of Lake Hallie, when  he observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lane of BUS 53 in the left lane. 

Before the vehicle passed his location, he activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle eventually stopped a short distance later. The officer approached the vehicle,  identified the driver as Susan Butterfield (age 52) of Chippewa Falls, and observed signs of  possible impairment. Butterfield voluntarily submitted to field sobriety testing which she failed,  refused a Preliminary Breath Test and as a result, Butterfield was arrested for Operating a Motor  Vehicle While Intoxicated -1st Offense. Butterfield consented to a legal blood draw, and she  was transported to the hospital for the blood draw. Along with OWI charge, Butterfield was  issued a citation for driving the wrong way on a divided highway.

Afterwards, she was taken to the Chippewa County Jail for processing. The results of the blood  test will not be known for several weeks as it will be sent to the Wisconsin State Crime  Laboratory.
