Recent rain, snow, and snowmelt in the upper Chippewa River watershed have resulted in elevated levels on the Chippewa River in Eau Claire. At its current level, the river has entered the Action stage. The downtown flood stage is 773 feet.

The National Weather Service expects that the river has crested, and river levels will gradually fall over the next few days. Still, for the safety of residents and visitors, the following areas have been closed:
• Chippewa River Trail – behind UW-Eau Claire Fine Arts building
• Chippewa River Trail – behind Hobbs Ice Arena, including boat landing and parking area
The City of Eau Claire will continue to closely monitor the river and take additional steps as necessary to ensure safety.
