DNR Monitors Wild Fire, Warns of Risk

DNR officials along with firefighters are monitoring a wild fire in the White River Marsh State Wildlife area.

This area is in Green Lake County and covers about 720 acres.  The fire broke out Monday around 4:30 p.m.  Two residences have been evacuated and another 6 are real close to the fire but have not been evacuated. People who visit the wildlife area are encouraged to stay away until crews have control of the fire.

Meanwhile, the Wisconsin DNR issued a warning to community members reminding them that fire risks are high due to the dry winter. Most of the grassy areas did not retain moisture like it normally would during the winter months.  Garrett Lubbers with the DNR recommends that controlled burns should wait until the conditions get better.

The DNR says the highest risk of fires to break out are in rural areas where there is a lot of dry vegetation.
