Local Responders Partner for Crisis Response

The Chippewa County Criminal Justice Services (CJS) Department received a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for $24,096 to incorporate a MILO (Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives) Range Advanced Training Simulator, which is a portable simulator, into field training to better prepare officers and deputies to intervene in crisis situations, response, and use proper de-escalation techniques.

The system provides a controlled and consistent testing platform for multiple agencies, stakeholders, and trainees at one time. “We are excited to have another tool to assist officers in making critical decisions in the field related to crisis response events,” said Chief Ryan Douglas. “The ability to have a portable judgement and de-escalation simulator available to all law enforcement jurisdictions will have a positive impact county-wide.”

Representatives from each law enforcement jurisdiction within Chippewa County, including the Sheriff’s Office, Bloomer, Stanley, Lake Hallie, Chippewa Falls, Cadott, and Cornell, will receive training March 6, 2025. The simulator will then be incorporated into regular field training practice along with being highlighted at community events.
