Thank you for spending some time with us today. Do I even need to remind you that we are (somehow) approaching the last week of February already? (Whaaaaa?!) With our temps set to climb back up, we are set to slow down a bit this morning and start your day with our weekly “scroll down memory lane.”
It’s a way to start the day on a lighter note. A look back at events that happened on these days in history before we go forward to make new history today. So, grab your favorite sippin’ drink and let’s scroll!

In 1848, John Quincy Adams, the 6th president of the United States, died at the age of 80.
In 1896, the Tootsie Roll was introduced by Leo Hirschfield.
In 1905, the Rotary Club was founded in Chicago, Illinois, by attorney Paul Harris.
In 1927, the Federal Radio Commission began its work. The name was later changed to the Federal Communications Commission.
In 1945, United States Marines from the Fifth Marine Division raised the American flag atop Mount Surabachi on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima.
In 1960, the demolition of Ebbetts Field began.
In 1965, comedian Stan Laurel died at the age of 74. He was half of the famous comedy team Laurel and Hardy.
In 1974, the Symbionese Liberation Army issued their ransom demands for Patty Hearst. They asked for four-million dollars to release the publishing heiress.
In 1991, President Bush announced that a ground offensive against Iraqi forces had begun.
In 1995, Temptations singer Melvin Franklin died of heart failure at the age of 52.
In 1997, scientists in Scotland announced the successful cloning of an adult mammal. They produced a lamb named “Dolly.”
In 2011, The White House said the Justice Department would no longer defend the constitutionality of the “Defense of Marriage Act.” The 1996 law defined marriage as being between one man and one woman.
In 2020, Europe experienced its first major COVID-19 outbreak with over 150 cases and three deaths in Italy. Ten towns in Lombardy were locked down because of it.
In 2021, Tigers Woods was involved in a car crash outside Los Angeles, severely injuring both of his legs.
In 2023, former Hollywood executive Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison for a Los Angeles rape conviction on top of the 23 years he is currently serving for sex crimes in New York.
