Gov. Evers Pushes Prison Reforms

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers wants prison reforms as part of his 2025-2027 biennial budget.

He wants to transform the Waupun Correctional Institution into a modern facility to offer inmates vocational training and wants to close the Green Bay Correctional Institution.  Evers says there are around 23-thousand people in prison right now in Wisconsin, and they expect that to grow to 24-thousand over the next two years.  He adds the state “is decades behind in how we think about corrections.”
