Sheriff Hakes recently addressed the use of funds from the Badger State Sheriff’s Association. Below is his release:
In the fall of 2024, the Badger State Sheriff’s Association received a large donation from someone who wished to remain anonymous. The donor requested that Sheriff’s use the funds for one of the following purposes: ballistic shields, ballistic vests, drones, night vision googles, less than lethal equipment, robotic device, or K9 programs.
On behalf of the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, I applied for funds to increase our less than lethal equipment. On January 16th 2025, I was informed that the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $15,692.80 to invest in our less than lethal equipment.
We were one of fourteen counties awarded funds through this donation.
Our Office is in the research stages of multiple equipment upgrades, as well as inventory increases to ensure that our Office has the most effective forms of less than lethal equipment, and has enough of it. This donation will allow our Office to further our mission on providing the residents of Chippewa County with the highest level of public safety possible, while being a good steward of their tax dollars.
