The Eau Claire police chief and a city attorney are speaking out against law enforcement agencies dropping off homeless people in Eau Claire without their consent.
Matt Rokus says the practice is “harmful” and “becoming frequently common.” This comes after the city and county attorneys sent a letter to Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul asking for his opinion on the matter. Rokus said dropping off people experiencing hardship isn’t in their best interest as he wants to make sure people aren’t stranded in a place unfamiliar to them without the appropriate services. City Attorney Stephen Nick said the drop-offs also raise several legal questions.
