Gov. Evers Creates New Program to Combat Violence

Wisconsin’s Democratic governor is creating a new program dedicated to preventing gun violence.  This comes a month after the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School.  Governor Tony Evers has signed an executive order creating an office of violence prevention.  The statewide office will work with local law enforcement agencies, nonprofits, school districts and gun shop owners to reduce gun violence.  Evers said ten-million-dollars in state funding will go towards the office and more will be requested next month to continue the office over the next two years.  He also plans on proposing a sweeping package of gun violence and public safety measures.

The latest update is that two students who were shot and had “life-threatening” injuries after the Abundant Life Christian School shooting are going to be okay.

According to a UW Health spokesperson, the two students are now considered to be in fair condition.  In a statement, UW said no additional details will be provided on these patients out of respect for their request for privacy.  On December 16th, a 15-year-old student shot eight people at the school.  A staff member and student passed away, and one teacher and five other students were hurt. The two students who are in the hospital were originally listed in critical condition.
