Wisconsin is getting ten-million dollars for youth mental health services.
The Department of Public Instruction says the federal grant will be distributed over the next five years through the School-Based Mental Health Professionals Grant Program. The money will go toward recruiting and retaining school counselors and making sure there are more diverse mental health workers in schools statewide. DPI says public schools hired almost 350 mental health workers in the five years since the last time it was awarded the grant in 2020.
