Jupiter Will Be Shining Bright

Here on our home planet, Earth, we can see another planet shine bright. Saturday is a great night to check out Jupiter.

The planet will be at its brightest as it orbits close to Earth and lies directly opposite of the sun. The phenomenon is called Jupiter at opposition and happens every 13 months. The gas giant appears so bright in the night sky that some believe this may have been the Star of Bethlehem. To view Jupiter, look east about an hour or two after sunset and it will rise throughout the night.
