The head of the Assembly’s elections committee wants to do better for the next election.
State Rep. Scott Krug says Wisconsin’s local election managers did a good job with Election Day 2024. But he says there’s always room for improvement. Most specifically, Krug wants lawmakers to okay an early-count law that would allow local election clerks to count absentee ballots either before Election Day, or before the polls close on Election Day. He says that would give people even more confidence in Wisconsin’s electoral process. He got an early-count plan through the Assembly last time, but it died in the State Senate out of fears an early count could be used to cheat.
