The Axe Heads Back, Bowl Hopes Flushed; Basketball Action Hits Kohl’s Center

The Badgers hand the axe over to Minnesota and will miss out on a bowl game for the first time in more than two decades.

Wisconsin was held to under 200 yards of total offense as the Badgers fell to the Golden Gophers 24-to-seven in the annual Paul Bunyan game Friday at frigid Camp Randall Stadium.  The temperature at kickoff was 22 degrees, making it the coldest Badgers’ home game since 1964, according to UW athletics communications.  With the loss, Wisconsin finishes the season at five-and-seven, and the Badgers’ streak of consecutive bowl appearances ends at 22.

Meanwhile, on the court the unbeaten and 17th-ranked Wisconsin men’s basketball team is back in action today.  The seven-and-oh Badgers host Chicago State today at noon at the Kohl Center.  Today’s game is Wisconsin’s first since last weekend when they beat UCF and Pitt in the Greenbrier Tip-Off in West Virginia.  Wisconsin has its Big Ten opener on Tuesday as the Badgers host Michigan at the Kohl Center.
