On Tuesday November 20th, 2024 at 5:40 pm the Barron County 911 Center received several calls of a serious traffic accident on Hwy 8 and 2nd Street just east of Turtle Lake.
Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Turtle Lake Police Department, Turtle Lake Fire Department, Cumberland Ambulance, Turtle Lake First Responders and Life Link Helicopter responded to the scene.
Initial investigation shows a truck struck a deer near this intersection. The driver of the truck and a passerby went into the road to remove the deer. The initial driver, who struck the deer, was then struck by 2 vehicles and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The deceased male is a 75 year old male from Cameron. The drivers of the other vehicles were a 48 year old male from Rice Lake and a 62 year old male from Almena.
The WI State Patrol is reconstructing the scene and the Barron County Hwy Department and Turtle Lake Fire had Hwy 8 closed for over 4 hours.
All indications into the investigation show this to be a tragic accident and it will be reviewed by the Barron County District Attorney’s Office when it is complete.
