The choice for the next president of the United States is now in the hands of the voters.
Every poll is open on this Election Day, and there is a heavy turnout being reported in just about every state. It is believed this will be the closest presidential election in decades. Former President Trump and Kamala Harris gave their closing arguments last night. The first polls close at 6pm Eastern and the election is expected to be decided by the seven swing-states.
Washington, D.C. is preparing for any possible unrest due to the election. The Secret Service has put up new eight-foot tall metal fences around several key sites including the White House, the Treasury Department, Lafayette Square, the Naval Observatory grounds and the vice president’s residence. Businesses have also been seen boarding up windows. Capitol Police increased staffing while D.C. officers will work 12-hour shifts.
On Monday, the D.C. police chief said they are ready to handle many different scenarios.
