There’s a new proposal at the Wisconsin Capitol that would give counties a bit more local control over their taxes. State Rep.
Dave Maxey yesterday introduced a plan that would allow counties to raise taxes by degrees. Right now, counties have to choose between no sales tax and a half-a-percent sales tax. Maxey says that one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work. Maxey, who is from New Berlin, introduced the plan as Waukesha County is considering a new half-a-percent sales tax. That sales tax pitch is now on hold.
