Millions Set for Local Government

Local governments across Wisconsin are getting hundreds of millions of dollars more from the state.

The state’s Department of Revenue says it is sending over one-and-a-half billion-dollars in shared revenue to cities, towns, counties, and townships in this year’s budget. Nearly 300 million-dollars of that is from the new shared revenue deal that became law last year. Another ten-million is coming from Wisconsin’s new tax on cable TV. Some of the new shared revenue dollars are earmarked for first responders, while some of the money can be spent however local governments see fit.
