WI Sees Jump in Test Scores

WI Sees Jump in Test Scores

Wisconsin’s new standardized test scores show huge jumps in reading and math, but critics say that’s only because the state changed the test scores.

The state’s Department of Public Instruction yesterday reported 12 point gains in both reading and math proficiency. But Quinton Klabon with the Institute for Reforming Government says that’s because DPIU changed how the Forward Exam and ACT are graded. He says Wisconsin school kids didn’t get that much better in just one year. Wisconsin’s state superintendent says she changed the test scores to better reflect all that kids have learned. Klabon said she changed the scores to make Wisconsin schools look better compared to other states.
