The Department of Revenue says shared revenue is one of the most significant sources of funding for local governments from the state. Governor Tony Evers says he signed the law tying local government funding to state sales taxes in 2023 following negotiations with Republican leadership. State aid can be used for public works, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and other activities approved by local governments.
