Madison County’s covered bridges maybe well known, but a little known fact is that they are also are in dire need of repairs.
This is ahead of the upcoming Covered Bridge Festival. County Engineer Mike Hackett estimates restoration costs at around a million dollars for the Holliwell Bridge and similar amounts for two others. The county currently lacks a budget for maintenance, raising concerns about the preservation of these historic structures.
