Speeding Leads to 3rd OWI For EC Woman

Leah Kay Mickelson, 25 years of age, from Eau Claire has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 3rd offense, with two children in the vehicle under the age of 16.

A Trooper with the Wisconsin State Patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding, traveling 93 m.p.h. in 70 m.p.h. zone on I-94 at mile post 41, near Menomonie. The Trooper observed that the driver, Leah Mickelson, showed signs of impairment. A subsequent investigation, including standardized field sobriety testing, showed that Ms. Mickelson was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant. She was subsequently arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant – 3rd offense while having passengers under 16 years old. The two minor passengers were turned over to the care of a responsible adult. Ms. Mickelson was transported to a local hospital for an evidentiary chemical test of her blood and then turned over to the Dunn Co. Jail. Ms. Mickelson was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant – 3rd offense while having passengers under 16 years old and operating a vehicle with a revoked drivers license.
