A former Western Wisconsin daycare worker could avoid jail time after reaching a plea agreement.
Thirty-two-year-old Mercedes Bergeron was charged in 2022 after a parent reported her son came home with scrapes and bruises more than ten times. The nine-month-old child was going to Hand in Hand Daycare in Eau Claire. Bergeron pled guilty to one of two child abuse charges as part of the plea deal yesterday. If she meets conditions, including no unsupervised contact with children other than her own, she will not face jail time.
