EC City Council to Vote on Campaign Spending

Eau Claire’s city council supports limits on federal campaign spending.

The council will vote tonight on an advisory resolution to support a constitutional amendment that would essentially undo the Citizens United decision. That’s the decision that allows companies to spend money on political campaigns just like labor unions or rich people. Eau Claire Councilman Andrew Werthmann says the council wants to lend its voice to supporting transparency in federal elections. The resolution wouldn’t change anything for the November election, and wouldn’t change anything for elections in Eau Claire either. More than 175 communities in Wisconsin have already passed similar resolutions.
