Kamala Harris will officially change to a presidential candidate with her stop in Milwaukee today.
Harris is due in Milwaukee this afternoon. This will be her first campaign rally as a candidate for president. All of her other stops here in Milwaukee and Wisconsin have been as the vice president. Harris is expected to speak to a crowd about 1 p.m. This will be Harris’ fifth visit to Wisconsin so far this year.
Looking at the political reaction in our state, we will show you some different sides so you can decide.
Almost all of Wisconsin’s Democratic delegates are supporting Kamala Harris for president. Wisconsin Democratic Party boss Ben Wikler yesterday said 90 percent of Democratic delegates have signed on to back Harris at next month’s Democratic National Convention. Wikler said that’s 89 of the state’s 95 delegates. The other six, Wikler said, are thinking things over and aren’t ready to make a public announcement.
Harris saw similar numbers from other states’ delegations yesterday, and some reports say she has enough delegates to secure the presidential nomination at the DNC. Wikler also said Harris’ new bid for president has pumped a new level of ‘unity and energy’ in Democrats in Wisconsin. Harris has her work cut-out for her in Wisconsin, the last few polls showed former President Trump with a lead in the state.
Closer to home, Western Wisconsin’s Republican congressman doesn’t want Kamala Harris to wait to maybe become president, he wants her to act now.
Congressman Derrick Van Orden yesterday said Harris should invoke the 25th Amendment, and remove President Biden from office. Van Orden wrote Harris a letter yesterday, laying out the case that President Biden is no longer of ‘sound mind and body.’ Van Orden added that he believes the United States is in danger as long as President Biden remains in office. He said he ‘takes no pleasure’ in asking for the 25th Amendment, but said he feels it must be done.
