The big show is here.
Milwaukee’s Republican National Convention begins today. The speeches, and former President Trump’s first appearance aren’t until later tonight, but there will be activity all day long.
Milwaukee Police and the Secret Service say there will be plenty of security at the convention, particularly after the attempt to assassinate former president Donald Trump.
The Secret Service is confident in their security plan for the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Wisconsin GOP Chair Brian Schimming agrees and says the event will go on as planned.
The Secret Service says there are no plans to change the security for this week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Secret Service RNC coordinator Audrey Gibson-Cicchino yesterday said they don’t plan to modify either the security perimeter or any of the plans after someone tried to shoot former President Trump on Saturday. The Secret Service says the RNC is already a top-level security event, and they feel it is already protected. There is a soft security perimeter in Milwaukee, and a hard security zone around Fiserv Forum where the convention is being held.
Wisconsin’s governor is asking the secret service to ban guns from the area near the Republican National Convention this week. Wisconsin allows people to legally carry guns, and both Milwaukee Police and the Secret Service say that means people can carry a gun when they are inside the soft security zone at this year’s convention. No one but the authorities is allowed to have a gun inside the hard security zone, which includes the actual convention itself. Governor Tony Evers says it’s ‘exceedingly important that additional steps be taken’ to protect people at the RNC.
