We have an update on the case of a missing fisherman in Eau Claire.
UPDATE 06/25/24 @ 5:30pm
On Tuesday, 06/25/24, at approximately 2:27pm, the Sheriff’s Office and rescue personnel were dispatched to the Eau Claire River between Harstad County Park and the County Road D bridge, in the Township of Lincoln, for a body located in the river by a kayaker. Rescue personnel utilized boats and all terrain vehicles and were able to get to the individual, who was confirmed to be deceased.
Positive identification has been made and the individual is confirmed to be Robert A. Hanson. Hanson was witnessed going under the water while fishing on Saturday, 06/22/24, in the area of Hwy 27 and Black Bear Rd, north of Augusta.
Assisting in the searches and subsequent recovery was the Augusta/Bridge Creek Fire & Rescue, Fall Creek Area Fire District, Township Fire Department, Wisconsin DNR, Augusta Police Department, Altoona Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, & and the Eau Claire/Dunn County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office sends its condolences to the family and friends of Hanson.

On Saturday, 06/22/24, at approximately 2:27pm, the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, along with Augusta Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the Eau Claire River in the area of HWY 27, in the Town of Bridge Creek for a subject who went missing in the river. It was reported that a male was seen attempting to walk across the river and went under the water. The witness, who had been fishing with the subject, did not see the subject again after that. Due to the large amount of recent rainfall, the river was high and moving rapidly
A large contingency of fire and rescue personnel from several area fire departments and law enforcement agencies responded to the scene and began a river search by water and by air, which continued into Sunday. As of this time, the subject has not been located. Efforts to locate the victim are being hampered by the rapid river waters but are continuing.
The subject is identified as Robert A. Hanson, 35yrs old, of Eau Claire.
