Madison Drops Speed Limits

Madison Drops Speed Limits

The city of Madison is dropping the speed limit on nine more roads as part of its Vision Zero plan for this year.

The mayor’s office made the announcement last week. Almost all the roads on this year’s list will go from 35 miles-per-hour, to 30. Two roads, Regent Street and Sheboygan Avenue, will go from 30 to 25, and Campus drive will go from 40 to 35 miles-per-hour. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway says the numbers show that lower speed limits lead to fewer crashes.

Madison is also planning speed humps and ‘traffic calming islands’ along several different roads across the city.
