The top Republican in the U.S. Senate wants to meet with the Secret Service about Milwaukee’s Republican National Convention.
Mitch McConnell last week sent a letter to the Secret Service, asking to talk about security for this summer’s convention. McConnell says the convention’s security perimeter ‘may be creating a likely – and preventable – area of conflict.’ McConnell says he’s worried that protesters will threaten convention goers. RNC planners have said for weeks that they fear Milwaukee’s planned protest zone is too close to the Deer District, where the convention will be held. They want that protest zone moved out of Pere Marquette Park. The Secret Service yesterday said it is confident in its security plans for the convention.
