Local leaders from Allouez are meeting at the Capitol today to try to convince lawmakers to close the Green Bay Correctional Center.
Village President Jim Rafter says he wants the state to close the prison in order to get the inmates there better conditions. He also wants to be able to redevelop the land where the prison sits. Rafter has a vision of office buildings, apartments, and restaurants on what is now Wisconsin’s oldest prison. Rafter says he’s bringing the round table discussion to the Capitol in Madison because that’s where the decision makers are.
