There’s a push at the Wisconsin Capitol to get driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants in the state.
State Representatives Clinton Anderson and Sylvia Ortiz-Velez yesterday introduced legislation that would allow people who are not in the country legally to get noncompliant REAL IDs when they do not have a social security number. The licenses and ID cards would give immigrants a valid form of ID, but would not allow them to vote. Anderson says giving people a driver’s license makes them a much safer driver. Wisconsin has resisted giving illegal immigrants driver’s licenses for years because of security and election integrity concerns.
