The buses we see on our roads are a familiar sight during the school year, but though they may look alike, some of them will be running differently as a local school district is going electric.
The Mondovi district was awarded $1.8 million under the first round of the U.S. EPA 2022 Clean School Bus Grant to procure five fully electric buses. Mondovi was one of three Wisconsin School Districts to accept awards in Xcel Energy’s service territory (Augusta and Granton the other two) and of 16 total grant recipients in the state to be awarded electric buses. Mondovi used Xcel Energy’s Make-Ready Infrastructure Program to further drive down infrastructure costs. These otherwise would have been required to be paid by the district and could have pushed the project out of budget
