The report into Chippewa County’s sheriff is now available to the public.
The county yesterday released the 600-plus page report into Sheriff Travis Hakes and his past behavior. The report looked into complaints about Hakes as sheriff, and into his time as a police officer in Chetek. Hakes refused to be a part of the investigation that led to the report. In fact, the report notes several times when Hakes either declined or ignored interview requests. The report concludes that there is “substantial evidence of dishonesty” by Hakes.
Showing you different sides so you can decide, Sheriff Hakes sees it differently and says the investigation is politically-driven and continues to speak out against the investigation, something he calls a waste of time, money, and resources.
