One of the bridges that connects western Wisconsin with Iowa is closed til further notice after transportation officials say it moved.
Wis-DOT yesterday said the historic Black Hawk Bridge in Crawford County is no longer safe for drivers. The bridge is the only way for people between La Crosse and Prairie du Chien to cross the Mississippi River into Iowa. Local leaders say closing the bridge cuts-off people who work on one side of the bridge, and live on the other. Crews hope to be able to close the gap between two of the bridge’s piers. They figure that’ll take at least two months.
