Deadly St. Croix County Crash Under Investigation

On Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, at 6:52am, the St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call alerting them to a single vehicle crash in the 2300 block of Hwy 63/64, located in the Town of Cylon.

Upon arrival, deputies located a 2004 Dodge Durango off the roadway. The vehicle had been traveling east on Hwy 63/64 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, entering the north ditch before colliding with a tree. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Darwin Maradiaga-Castellon age 27, of St. Paul, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Deputies, New Richmond EMS, and first responders administered life-saving measures at the scene. Mr. Maradiaga- Castellon was transported to Regions Hospital by ambulance and later died from his injuries. The passenger, Wilmer Redondo-Reyes, age 39, of St. Paul, sustained minor injuries. Initial investigation indicate Mr. Maradiaga-Castellon and Mr. Redondo-Reyes were wearing seat belts. Icy road conditions may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation.
