The first general homeless shelter in Dunn County has opened for business — and shelter officials say they’re working through a waitlist for people who want to stay at the shelter.
The Cairn House in Menomonie has taken several years to finance and build at a total cost one-and-a-half million dollars. People can stay at the shelter for up to eight weeks or longer, depending on circumstances. The shelter has three case managers on staff to help residents find more permanent housing and employment.
