WI Lawmakers Tackle Bail Reform

Lawmakers at the Wisconsin Capital are considering a plan that would require bail for anyone who skipped out on their bail in the past.

A Senate panel will hold a hearing today on a plan that would require at least five thousand-dollars cash bail for anyone with a bail jumping conviction on their record. If someone has a bail jumping conviction and a conviction for a violent crime, the law would require at least 10-thousand-dollars cash bail. Right now, judges in Wisconsin can only assign bail to people who they fear won’t show back up in court, or who are a serious danger to the community.
